The following story and pictures were contributed by Gerry Ayre, (gerry.ayre@surfer.co.nz), a former member of 5 Squadron.

GUAM

On our way to Singapore 31 May 1960.

About an hour out of Guam a cylinder from No1 engine blew through the cowl.  Captain was Flt Lt Bill Willis. Engineers Roy Bleakly and Bill McNelly.  Rest of flight to Guam uneventful.

The Americans had a spare engine in storage would you believe??  Some minor modifications to fuel pipes etc and some were manufactured by our engineers.  Our engineers changed the engine using the American crane in picture.
